SERVING PUBLIC MARKETS
(THEATRE)

10:00am - 11:00amToward a National Footprint
Long viewed as the Holy Grail of public access is a single network that stretches to whatever location we may find ourselves in. We're a long way from achieving this, but many forces are working to make it a reality. So far, efforts have centered on connecting or aggregating the many small networks that have sprung up. Looming in the future, however, is the spector of a top-down takeover by the regional telecommunications companies, with their massive resources. This session debates the advantages and disadvantages of these two vectors.
