Alan brings over 15 years developing and marketing network-centric products
and services. At Black Storm Networks he has responsibility for Marketing
and Product Management.
Prior to Black Storm, he was VP, Marketing, at Tahoe Networks, where he
launched the company in the Mobile Internet space, from the development of
it mobile edge router to a worldwide presence and brand. At Cisco Systems,
he led key service provider initiatives including Internet OSS, New World
Ecosystem, and Internet Business Solutions. At IBM, he was the GM of the
first hosted business-to-business eCommerce service, World Distributor, a
pioneering business-to-business Application Service Provider; his team
developed IBM Net.Commerce, the foundation for IBM’s marketing leading
Websphere application server. More recently he was Chief Marketing
Executive for IBM’s Global Telecommunications and Media business unit, which
accounted for more than $5 billion in revenue and was the fastest growing
business unit (of 400) at Big Blue and only 1 of 2 units to gain share from
1996-1998. During this time he launched and marketed over 15 industry
solutions in a 2-year period, including NHL.Com, PGA.Com, Deep Blue, and the
Madison Project (JV with Sony). At US West, Alan was part of the team that
launched Mercury One2One, the world's first PCS service, and reshaped the
entire mobile portfolio, resulting in an industry-transforming merger with
AirTouch and a nationwide PCS partnership, PCS PrimeCo. Previously he was a
management consultant with Coopers & Lybrand and a Congressional Research
Fellow.
A prolific published writer and speaker, he has been profiled in Tom
Friedman's bestseller, The Lexus and the Olive Tree. Alan holds an MBA from
NYU, an MA from the School of International Service and a B.A. from SUNY
Buffalo. He is on the Board of Directors of General Growth Properties (NYSE:
GGP) and advisory boards of Vista Broadband, cPlane and UXCOMM.com.
