Peter Murray
President
Gemtek Technology USA
Peter Murray graduated from A.S.T. University in Hampshire (UK) with a degree in Radio Telegraphy and Telecommunications, received a National Certificate in Electrical Engineering, City and Guilds Certificates in both Radio Communications and Telecommunications from Preston Polytechnic in Lancashire (UK) and earned a degree in Business Administration from Sheraton College in Ontario (Canada).

Peter has been involved in wireless communications all his working life. His rich wireless heritage mirrors the development of radio technology. He started with Marconi International Marine Communications in England, served in the Royal Air Force and then the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority as a Radio Officer and an instrument and communications technician. He came to the United States after joining Multitone Electric, an English radio paging manufacturer in 1962, where he was instrumental in opening and staffing service facilities all across North America for more than a decade.

Peter held strategic business positions with Ericsson from 1983 until 1998 working as Director for New Business Development and Director of Regulatory and Standards, coordinating such activities as TR45 (micro-cellular ad hoc committee), Telocator (PCIA) PCS, and the Ad hoc Committee on Unlicensed PCS. He headed the team that introduced and launched the Ericsson PCS "Freeset" Wireless PBX system. During his stint at Ericsson, he lobbied successfully at the FCC for new spectrum for unlicensed PCS and also worked extensively on projects to establish technologies such as UPCS, DECT, HOMERF and Bluetooth.

Peter has contributed to the etiquette that governs how dissimilar types of radio technology use the same spectrum without interference. A founding member of UTAM, Inc. he also served as Vice President of that association. UTAM was formed, and has been approved by the FCC, to be the Frequency Coordinator for the relocation of the 2 GHz band. As former treasurer and board member of WINForum, Peter helped formulate the rules under which equipment would operate on the new unlicensed spectrum at 1910 to 1930 MHz. The output from WINForum is now incorporated into the FCC rules under Part 15 subpart D.301 - 323.

From 1998 to 2001 Peter Murray worked for No Wires Needed, a pioneering WLAN provider, serving as General Manager and Vice President of New Business Development for No Wires Needed USA, Inc.

In 2001 and 2002 he consulted for Gemtek Technology Inc., in Asia, Europe and the United States.

Peter is a voting member of IEEE 802.11, an active member of WECA. He has been an active participant in ANSI C63 SC7; TIA 45, 46, TR41.6; PCIA, and was involved in the start-up of the JTC on PCS (T1P1 and TIA). Since 1989 Peter has given extensive speaking engagements and written tutorials on PCS, and has authored numerous articles published in communications trade magazines and technical publications.
