| Mr. Miller currently heads the Communications Technology Research Department at the AT&T Labs Shannon Laboratory, Florham Park, NJ. His department develops new concepts and technologies for next-generation AT&T wired and wireless access systems and services. Mr. Miller has been involved with radio-telephony since his participation in design of the first cellular telephones and systems in the 1970's. He has led R&D groups in design of smart cards, digital telephones, high-performance conferencing systems and multimedia wireless systems and terminals. In his current role, he has been leading research for next-generation packet-based networks, free-space optical transmission systems, and broadband services for home, enterprise, and public environments. Recent work has focused on broadband radio network research, including QoS, Radio Resource Management, and Automatic System Configuration elements for next-generation wireless LANs. He has been active in formulation of 802.11 and TGe (QoS MAC) standards. Mr. Miller holds numerous patents associated with RF, signal processing, acoustics and wireless communication systems, is a member of the IEEE, and is an AT&T Fellow as well as a Bell Laboratories Fellow. |
