Carey Hidaka
Market Development Executive
Emerging Business Solutions - RFID Tagging
IBM Global Services

Profile
Mr. Carey Hidaka is an IBM Global Services market development executive in the wireless emerging business opportunities area. He has twenty years of information technology experience, the last twelve of which in the cellular and wireless telecommunications industry. As an executive consultant and market development executive, Mr. Hidaka has authored white papers on radio frequency identification (RFID), wireless wide area data networks, and mobile computing, including wireless local area networks. He has worked with specific focus in the wireless Internet and high speed wireless data in Japan, studying the success of the iMode wireless Internet service and its business model. His experience ranges from direct customer sales of information technology products to product management of cellular infrastructure products and new business development in cellular and wireless technologies.

Successes
Mr. Hidaka is working with IBM customers to implement the use of emerging wireless technologies like RFID to enhance their business performance and improve operations. He has contributed to IBM's internal intellectual capital by producing white papers in the areas of cellular, 2.5G, and 3G networks worldwide, mobile computing, and the mobile workforce. While working at a major international cellular infrastructure provider, Mr. Hidaka managed a business development team responsible for identifying and creating solutions to complement traditional infrastructure sales. These solutions focused on providing differentiated services and customer value in highly competitive cellular and wireless markets, helping customers to advance beyond second generation wireless (2G) to take advantage of the higher wireless data rates in 2.5 generation (2.5G) and third generation (3G) wireless services. Analyzing market demographic information and competitive influences, Mr. Hidaka identified requirements for providing subscriber-oriented, revenue-generating customer solutions extending from the wireless handset through the wireless infrastructure to services provided on the Internet and corporate intranets. Using these requirements, he worked across product teams to create solutions that were proposed to wireless operators. While this work focused on the Japanese market, Mr. Hidaka worked to extend this experience and background to other international markets now introducing wireless data and Internet services.

Other Direct Work Experience
Mr. Hidaka was a product manager responsible for providing third party cellular infrastructure equipment to complement the product portfolio of a major infrastructure equipment supplier, resulting in $4 million in revenue in its first year of operation. He earlier worked as an IBM marketing representative for ten years, supporting customers in the higher education and health industries. Mr. Hidaka also practiced as a consulting engineer, designing water and wastewater treatment facilities for major industrial clients in the United States.

Credentials
Mr. Hidaka has a Masters in Business Administration degree with finance specialization from the University of Chicago, a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado - Boulder.
