Robert is the founder and chairman of UltraDevices, Inc. a startup
developing next generation meshed Broadband Wireless products that
enable service providers to deliver public access 802.11 Hotzones and
last mile access using unlicensed spectrum.
He is also a consultant/advisor to VCs, established and start-up
manufacturers, carriers, ISPs and enterprises. His focus is on the
intersection of technology, markets, and society with Open Standards,
Open Source Software, Open Spectrum, multimedia and Internet
infrastructure. Companies that he has worked with include IDG,
LinuxWorld, CTO Forum, NY Times and Dow Jones, Mohr Davidow Ventures,
Institutional Venture Partners, Athena Tech Ventures, Visa, Intel,
Ascend, Alteon, Cosine, Covad, AboveNet and Digital Island.
Robert has been an instructor, speaker or moderator at several
Networld/Interop, LinuxWorld, CTO Forum, Internet World and other
conferences. Robert has been the Program Chair of the Asia Pacific
Regional Internet Confernce on Operational Technologies
(http://www.apricot.net) for the last several years.
In 1993, Robert founded the high bandwidth ISP, InterNex, pioneering
ISDN, QoS based pricing and internationally distributed Server Farms.
InterNex was sold to Concentric in early 1998.
Prior to being focused on the Internet, Robert was involved with real
time image processing, multimedia production systems and programming
at the boundry between hardware and software. Robert led groups at
Sony Advanced Video Technology Center, Digital F/X, Datacube and
Utopia Video.
