Rich Mirabella is CEO of DartDevices, an early stage software company that has not made its products or plans public.
Previously, Rich was VP Corporate Strategy at Macrovision (MVSN) working on Digital Rights Management for Digital Video, Enterprise Software, as well as other content and venture investments. He developed the foundation for Macrovision's next generation enterprise software licensing/ Digital Rights Management and Utility Pricing technology which is based on his patent pending technology. (Note to Bill: I have no financial interests in Macrovision or these patents).
Prior to GLOBEtrotter's merger with Macrovision, he was VP of Marketing at GLOBEtrotter for 12 years. Privately held GLOBEtrotter was sold for over $700 million in Macrovision common stock in 2000. GLOBEtrotter's flagship product, FLEXlm is a DRM used by enterprise software vendors to electronically license their software. Rich developed many of the business concepts that are part of FLEXlm's design and in the licensing practices used by many software vendors. Over $70 billion of enterprise software has been shipped using FLEXlm. At GLOBEtrotter, he has consulted to hundreds of software vendors on their transition to electronic licensing, DRM technology and the resulting new pricing and business models. These software companies include include 30 of the 50 largest software vendors.
Mr. Mirabella has more than 20 years experience in the computer industry in sales and marketing management. He also served as director of marketing at Sony, Olivetti and General Electric. Mr. Mirabella has been active in computer industry organizations such as the SPA, IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) where he was part of the team that developed DHCP - which is now standard on every computer and router), OpenGroup, Licensing Executives Society and many others. He also founded the Electronic Commerce for Software Conference in 1997, which focused on DRM for enterprise software addressing both large software customers and vendors. This conference continues as Macrovision's SoftSummit Conference. He earned a bachelor's degree in physics from Cooper Union, completed graduate work in applied physics at Stanford University and received an MBA from Harvard.
