ContentGuard, Inc. is driving the standard for interoperability in Digital Rights. The origins of the company's broad foundation portfolio of DRM patents, and its Rights Expression Language, XrML (eXtensible rights Markup Language) were developed at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). XrML was selected as the basis for the Moving Picture Expert's Group (MPEG) and the Open eBook Forum (OeBF) Rights Expression Language standards, and it is under consideration by a number of other standards bodies. ContentGuard is promoting the adoption of the MPEG REL ISO international standard, as the core industry standard for interoperable expressions of usage rights governing any type of digital resource. Launched in April 2000, ContentGuard conducts its operations in Bethesda, MD, and El Segundo, CA.
