FileOpen Systems Inc. is a privately owned company that develops encryption software for use with Adobe® Acrobat®. Founded in 1997 in New York, FileOpen Systems is a third-party developer of Adobe Systems Inc. of San Jose, and is licensed to provide Digital Rights Management (DRM) solutions for Adobe's widely distributed free Adobe Reader®. FileOpen's software protects documents in PDF (Portable Document Format) from unauthorized viewing, copying, printing, and redistribution. The company's products include FileOpen WebPublisherTM, a system for server-based encryption and authentication, and FileOpen PublisherTM, a desktop application for encrypting batches of documents. The software is used worldwide by publishers, manufacturers, banks, government agencies, universities, and hundreds of other industries in which both security and end-user ease-of-use are paramount.
