Morning Keynote: Linux--The Foundation of Enterprise Grids |
| |
A transistion is underway to make computing a utility, a commodity, and ubiquitous. This computing model allows you to allocate your resources to meet the needs of your business instead of having islands of computing that are idle or overloaded.Low-cost commodity clusters and an open source operating system are the key components to supporting this “utility-class” model of computing. This keynote will discuss Oracle’s strategy in working with Linux partners, providing integrated Linux support and clustering technology to provide the foundation of grid computing.
Speaker:
Dave Dargo, Vice President, Linux Program Office, Oracle Corporation

Running ASP.NET on Linux with Apache and Mono (Track 1) |
| |
This presentation will introduce the mod_mono Apache module, that integrates the Apache Web server and the Mono project and allows running server-side .NET applications on Linux. The talk will also cover the Mono project, an open source clone of the Microsoft .NET framework. As Mono matures, it is becoming an increasingly attractive option for Enterprises migrating from Windows as they can reuse their existing codebase, they do not need to retrain their developers, there are no license costs and Unix/Linux is regarded as a more stable, secure server platform.
Speaker:
Daniel Lopez Ridruejo, mod_mono and Comanche Developer

Linux, Intellectual Property and The SCO Group v. IBM: A Road (Track 3) |
| |
The SCO Group has thrown down the gauntlet by challenging IBM's use and distribution of what SCO claims is protected intellectual property. SCO Group has also challenged the broader Linux and open source communities by declaring its intent to pursue licensing fees for certain Unix-based applications. Intellectual property lawyers William Zucker and Scott Nathan will help sort out the issues raised by SCO that have become the subject of internal discussions within organizations large and small. They will also discuss the current status of the copyleft movement within the traditional intellectual property community and developments in copyright and other areas of intellectual property law that may affect the use and pursuit of the open source model. In the spirit of open source, they will also hold an open forum to discuss legal issues raised by and affecting the Linux community generally, including UCITA, the impact of copyleft on copyright and strategic suggestions regarding the use of copyleft provisions in IP agreements.
Speakers:
Scott Nathan, Attorney-at-Law
William Zucker, Attorney-at-Law

High Availability Clustering on Linux- Oracle9i Real Application Clusters |
| |
In this session you'll learn how you can make Linux scalable and reliable by running Oracle9i Real Application Clusters. Oracle9i Real Application Clusters on Linux withstands system, storage and site failure, or human error. And, with a new open-source version of the Oracle Cluster File System for Linux, managing clusters is easier than ever. Also, learn how customers are benefiting from running their business on database Linux clusters

Case Study: Optimizing Linux Deployment on Mainframes, Servers and Desktops at Merrill Lynch (Track 1) |
| |
Merrill Lynch is using Linux on a range of platforms in order to reduce costs, gain control and tap enterprise services available on mature computing platforms such as mainframes. Hear how Linux is deployed on central mainframes, distributed servers and desktop machines. Learn how the company is targeting workloads to platforms based on the cost profile and requirements of the workload. With Linux on the desktop, Merrill is looking to move away from the standard industry cost model in which software costs increase as desktop units increase. Virtual Linux on the mainframe brings advantages of strong central administration and virtualized hardware and software. Understand how your organization can benefit from the example of an innovation leader.
Speaker:
Mark Snodgrass, VP Linux Convergence Strategy, Merrill Lynch

Using Linux to Recalculate the Application Management ROI Equation |
| |
Linux acceptance within enterprise datacenters to support online business services is continuing to increase. Linux together with other infrastructure trends (blade architectures, server virtualization, and web
services) are changing the structure of datacenter and breaking the application management mold. With online business services being the lifeblood of many business ventures IT managers must understand how Linux infrastructure can pull cost out of the entire datacenter equation: purchase price, deployment, and operations. This session: previews what tomorrow's Linux-based application environment will look like, discusses what capabilities IT will need to manage it cost effectively, outlines where some of the ROI benefits can be expected, and the current and planned vendor solutions for application management.

Jasmine Noel, Principal, JNoel Associates

Deployment of Database Mission-Critical Applications on Linux: Case Study Co-Presentation (Track 1) |
| |
Existing database-centric applications can be deployed to a Linux environment to lower the cost of IT infrastructure. Come to this session to hear a case study on how a financial services company implemented Oracle9i Real Application Clusters on low-cost Intel servers running Linux. ECB Processing is an international transaction processing company with a customer base that extends to all continents. The company provides its bank partners and merchant customers the most current product set in today's market including an online fraud detection and prevention service. Etagon provides Linux-based appliances that speed the deployment and simplify the management of Oracle 9i Real Application Cluster databases. The session covers the implementation experience, the Linux variations considered, tools employed for management and backup, and lessons learned.
Speaker:
Adi Ekshtain, Chief Technology Officer, ECB Processing
Oded Zehavi, VP Professional Services, Etagon

Linux Clustering for the Enterprise: How to realize savings, performance and high availability with today’s Lintel systems |
| |
In this session, Moshe Bar will discuss the emerging new enterprise clustering paradigm for business applications. Topics will include scalability, clustering file systems, distributed memory models and practical applications as well as case studies of existing installations. The emphasis will be on using Linux clustering within the datacenter as a means for server consolidation, proprietary SMP systems replacement and datacenter management. The talk will cover specific practices and case studies on using clustered Linux and IA-32 systems to improve manageability, realize high availability, and reduce cost of ownership while achieving SMP-level performance. The presentation will leverage Dr. Bar’s experience with enterprise Linux clustering, High Performance Computing (HPC) and work in open source clustering efforts such as openMosix to enable provide participants with the information to help build business cases, solve technical problems and gain valuable insight into Linux clustering for the enterprise.
Speaker:
Moshe Bar, PhD, CTO and co-founder, Qlusters

Usage Models for Linux Within the Enterprise (Track 5) |
| |
This session will explain the three main properties required for an enterprise OS: reliability, availability, and serviceability. The presentation will focus on evaluating Linux with respect to these properties, as well as hardware and software architectures to enhance and support them such as IA-64, large file systems, server/storage consolidation, SMP scalability, database management, and clustering.
Speaker:
Dr. Reza Rooholamini, Director of Enterprise Solutions, Dell Computer Corporation
