Daniel A. Powers
Vice President, Grid Computing Strategy
IBM Corporation
Dan Powers is Vice President, Grid Computing Strategy & Technology. He is responsible for IBM's Grid Computing strategy with respect to software, hardware, services, business partners, offerings development, and ISVs. Previously he led IBM’s Linux initiatives worldwide and has played a strategic role in developing IBM’s Linux, Internet, and e-business product/service strategies. Dan has held numerous management, technical, and executive positions at IBM, with a focus on the financial industry. He has developed e-business strategies and solutions for several major financial service institutions. Additionally, he speaks at many industry conferences worldwide on such topics as e-business on demand, the next generation Internet, Grid Computing, Autonomic Computing, Linux, and the open-source movement.
He has more than 18 years experience with the Internet, business strategy and complex IT architectures/infrastructures. Dan is also an avid technology evaluator and pioneer, frequently using the latest and greatest technologies in the industry. He is active in the open source community as a member of the Global Grid Forum, former board member to the Jabber Foundation, and corporate advisory member of the Gnome foundation. He received his MBA from the Wharton Business School and B.S. in Computer Science & Mathematics from RIT (Rochester Institute of technology).
