Iain Gillott, the founder and principal of iGillottResearch, is responsible for conducting research on major wireless technology and business issues, including 2G and 3G systems and technologies, Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), i-Mode, Mobile Commerce and its value chains, GSM/GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and WCDMA, 1xMC/EV and 3xMC, Wireless Instant Messaging, IP provisioning and billing platforms, and Wireless Application Service Providers (ASPs). He is an acknowledged wireless and mobile industry authority and a frequent commentator on industry issues and trends, having addressed and challenged audiences around the world. Mr. Gillott lectures on the wireless telecommunications industry at the University of Texas and at Thunderbird, and has appeared on CNBC, CNet and CNN. In addition, he is frequently quoted in major publications, including Red Herring, The Industry Standard, Wired, Investors Business Daily, the Wall Street Journal, Computerworld, NetworkWorld, eWeek, Newsweek International, Wireless Week and Business Week.
Before founding iGillottResearch, Mr. Gillott was a Group Vice President in IDC's Telecommunications practice, managing IDC's worldwide research on wireless and mobile communications and Internet access, telecom brands, residential and small business telecommunications and telecom billing services. Research included analysis of vendor strategies combined with primary surveys of consumers, businesses, and corporations. Prior to joining IDC, Mr. Gillott was a manager at Electronic Data Systems' Personal Communications Division, responsible for new business proposals to wireless and mobile operators.
