TRACK 1: THE BUSINESS CASE FOR WIRELESS

The competitive advantages provided by wireless mobile technology, such as achieving greater productivity, lowering costs and transforming the customer experience, guarantee that virtually every organization will exploit wireless capabilities in some way. This is a tall order, and, before committing the dollars and resources to “Unplug the Enterprise” executives will need to fully understand the business impacts and justifications of this process across the entire spectrum of business and computing activities.

To successfully unplug the enterprise, business and technical executives believe that it is critical that they understand how their systems infrastructure and business processes will be impacted. They must also develop and implement an overall wireless business plan that not only identifies where the greatest immediate payback will come from, but one that also speaks to the business implications of integrating wireless mobile solutions into the current business and technology hierarchy. Longer-term wireless mobile options must also be addressed. Questions such as: How much will these solutions save? What new revenues will be generated? How do these new technologies align with our business goals? What is the ROI?…etc, must be asked and answered. Topics in this track include:

  • CIO & CTO Strategies for Unplugging the Enterprise,
  • Identifying the Right Applications for the Right Part of the Organization,
  • Aligning Wireless and Mobile Strategies and Corporate Goals,
  • Selling Wireless and Mobile Solutions as a Business Solution,

TRACK 2: ENTERPRISE APPLICATIONS & SERVICES
As with any major enterprise initiative, wireless and mobile strategies must be followed with the implementation and deployment of the right applications to provide a winning solution. These technologies are never easy to understand but this track will unravel the jargon and hyper-babble to explain the fundamentals, standards and details governing applications and services in the wireless world. Applicable to both business and technical managers, the audience will learn (in detail) about the latest wireless technology, application and service solutions, as well as how to best leverage them across the enterprise.

TRACK 3: MOBILE WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS

The Mobile workforce continues to grow and reap benefits at an incredible rate. In fact it is estimated that by 2004 more than 40% of the global workforce will operate remotely. Currently some of the most popular and beneficial wireless applications are those designed for the mobile workforce and field force with mobile devices as the driver. Sales, service, field engineers and management are all benefiting from these types of applications and odds are, your company is - or will soon be – capitalizing on the benefits of a mobile workforce.

The productivity, efficiency, flexibility and cost savings a successful mobile workforce implementation can offer is surpassed only by the growing customer demand for it. However, there are real challenges here that must be understood and addressed such as the necessary procedures and policies that need to be put into place, secure infrastructure, device selection and reliability, synchronized data, process integration, enablement and management, and more.

This track tackles all critical issues surrounding the enablement, necessary technology and infrastructure and management of a successful mobile workforce. Topics include:
  • Strategies for Enabling and Managing Mobile Workforces,
  • Systems Infrastructure for Scalable Mobile Solutions,
  • Data Synchronization Solutions,
  • Comparing, Selecting and Managing Handhelds in an Enterprise Environment,
  • Process Integration,
  • End User Training and Support Considerations,
  • Integrating Wireless Devices with Production Systems: Interoperability, Connectivity, Analysis of Platforms, and Standards,
  • Mobile Privacy, Policy and Security,
  • OS Alternatives,
  • Advanced Messaging Solutions,
  • Overcoming Network management and Security Hurdles,
  • Network Management of Devices,
  • Driving End User Adoption,
  • Supply Chain Collaboration,
  • Leveraging Wireless CRM and Business Intelligence, and Sales, Service and Field Force Automation Applications.

TRACK 4: 802.11 & NETWORK INTEGRATION

The evolution of wireless mobile technologies and devices is fundamentally changing the way the world communicates and conducts business. Moreover, barriers of bandwidth, speed, graphics, content and connections are quickly being removed, with the result that shortly it will not be technology that limits wireless capabilities but rather the imagination of business and technical managers.

Building and managing scalable infrastructures and integrating wireless technology across the entire network in a secure, real-time, and remotely accessible manner, will be as critical a component as any in wireless implementation. The popularity of Wireless LAN technology such as 802.11 is growing exponentially within the enterprise and for location based services. While the benefits and capabilities of wireless network technologies are for real, there is still much to be understood. How can it be integrated with WAN’s? How does 802.11 compare with PAN technologies such as Bluetooth? What role will Network Services play? These critical questions and more will be addressed in this track:

  • Wireless LAN and Bluetooth Developments,
  • Integrating 802.11 Technology in the Enterprise,
  • Implementing and Maintaining 802.11 Networks,
  • 2G, 2.5G, 3G and 4G Wireless: a Roadmap and Reality Check,
  • Maintaining Session Control between WLAN and WAN,
  • Integrated WLAN, PAN and WAN Devices and Modems,
  • Integrated Billing Models - Enabling m-Business,
  • Mobile VPN Technologies,
  • Maintaining Security Across the Network,
  • Top Applications for 802.11 Networks,
  • Integrating WiFi, WLAN and PAN Technology with Wide Area Networks,

  • Data Acceleration,
  • Location based Services.

TRACK 5: WIRELESS DATA, SECURITY & DEPLOYMENT

The deployment of applications using wireless data technology services is exhibiting explosive growth for industry-specific and vertical applications, and the wireless data market servicing horizontal users is now catching fire. It is easy to see why. The benefits of wireless data implementations in terms of cost reduction, increased productivity, higher quality services and the development of new markets, are well known. However, pitfalls do exist. Organizations considering wireless data solutions must first consider the significant barriers that exist, including the varying coverage of most public systems, reduced transfer rates versus landline connections, connectivity costs and the special characteristics of wireless connections (high latency, low reliability, reduced bandwidth), form factors and user interface issues.

Once these have been addressed, and the business case successfully made, organizations must deploy and support their wireless and mobile initiatives. In doing so, consideration must be given to infrastructure, scaling test environments up to meet real world demand, and of course end-users. In addition, enabling wireless applications and access will create systems issues involving connectivity, synchronization, services, user support, network management and security.

Topics in this track will include:
  • Enterprise Wireless Data Integration (with existing infrastructure),
  • Data Access & Synchronization,
  • Integrating Handheld Devices with the Enterprise,
  • Mobile VPN’s,
  • WLAN Security & Privacy,
  • Securing the Mobile End User’s Experience,
  • Ensuring Link Privacy & Integrity,
  • Mobile Messaging, Coding & Authentication,
  • Selecting Packet Data Vendors and Circuit-switched Data Vendors,
  • Preventing Denial of Service, and
  • Vertical and Horizontal Wireless Data Solutions,

TRACK 6: SPECIAL FOCUS ON HEALTHCARE

Like all other industries, the healthcare industry is under constant pressure to improve the quality of the services they deliver. It is for this reason, that the healthcare industry is rapidly adopting wireless technology, applications and services in large numbers, despite draconian cost containment efforts. Wireless systems for medical record management, diagnostics, charting, pharmacy, admissions, billing, and other services have been proven to increase data timeliness and accuracy, while reducing errors. Sessions in the Wireless in Healthcare track describe how wireless technology can be deployed in a hospital, research or clinical setting to provide better healthcare services at reduced costs.
