Content Windowing: Assessing the Opportunities and the Limitations for Game Publishers
It is becoming more common for game publishers and hardware manufacturers to enter into agreements whereby new software is offered exclusively for a specific game console for a designated period of time. While this practice is a great opportunity for the selected console manufacturer, game publishers must weigh the immediate opportunity against the longer term limitations. What criteria should game developers consider when making decisions about the timing of new releases? How should decisions about content windowing be made to ensure the greatest return? What are the costs involved in developing content for different hardware? How can game developers minimize these costs?

Multi-Player Services: New Standard or Natural Evolution?
The recent launch of Sony's network adapter, followed closely by Microsoft's Xbox Live, illustrate two different approaches to multi-player services. In the current market, game publishers have to decide whether or not to make their software available for use on all consoles. These decisions will become more difficult as the console market evolves and may have a significant impact on the console industry itself as consumer's loyalty will gravitate towards the game titles rather than the hardware.
