Marguerite G. Gear, Esq. Vice President and Sourcing Manager Bank of America
Marguerite G. Gear, Esq., has a distinguished legal and business career within the security software industry. She currently serves as Vice President and Sourcing Manager for Bank of America, where she negotiates
strategic, high-level technology licenses on behalf of the bank's Technology and Operations Group. Prior to this role, Ms. Gear served as Senior V.P., General Counsel, and Executive Board member to Sigaba, which provides secure messaging and IM solutions.
Ms. Gear developed her expertise in key positions as Principal Counsel to RSA Data Security, where she worked on then-emerging issues involving encryption export and other regulatory compliance standards for security
software vendors. While at RSA, she also obtained certification in export compliance training from the BXA.
As Chief Legal Counsel and Management Team member to Finnish anti-virus innovator F-Secure (formerly Data Fellows), she formulated international privacy and compliance standards that are still in place today.
Additionally, she has consulted to VeriSign in formulating PKI practices standards, as well as consumer protection and encryption export compliance policies. She began her career as a patent infringement trial attorney.
Ms. Gear is a member of the California State Bar, and she is licensed to practice in state and federal courts. She is a frequent industry and academic speaker on issues involving regulatory and encryption export
compliance and strategic technology licensing. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from University of Hawaii (B.A., Political Science). Ms. Gear obtained her J.D. in 1992 from Hastings College of The Law, where she served as Adjunct Professor until 1999.
