Instant Messaging isn't simply a new technology. It's a new way of conversing. Conversing - speaking together - is a fundamental human act and we don't often get to invent new ways of speaking very often. IM as a form of conversation shares in the characteristics of the Web itself, a new world fundamentally free of management and control in which we get to type ourselves into existence. In this wide-ranging talk, Dr. Weinberger looks at the effect of the Web on the ways businesses work and the way customers talk with one another, providing a context for understanding the deepest impact of IM.
