James Barry has over twenty years of technology industry and startup management experience. As CTO of Jabber, Inc., he is responsible for setting strategic direction for Jabber products and initiatives, including addressing such key issues as standards, competitive positioning, open source initiatives and industry relations. Prior to Jabber, Mr. Barry served as VP of Products and Strategy at CollabNet, where he led strategic initiatives for product development, partnerships, and acquisitions. Mr. Barry also held several management positions at IBM, where he is credited as founder of the WebSphere line of Internet middleware. He was instrumental in establishing the initial J2EE standard and was pivotal in IBM's adoption of the Apache webserver, starting the Jakarta project for server-side Java. As a partner at ResNova Software, he developed several webserver applications that eventually led to an acquisition of ResNova by Microsoft. ResNova was an early leader of Web based commercial applications, Webservers and a leader in the HTTP and HTML standards setting process.Ê
