Ramu Sunkara is the Vice President of Real-Time Collaboration Products division at
Oracle. He started the division in 2001 by seeing the rapid proliferation of the IP
Networks (Internet and the Intranets) and 97% of the market was yet to standardize on a
Real-Time Collaboration solution. Real-Time Data and Voice products: Oracle Web
Conferencing, Oracle Instant Messaging (will be released soon) are Enterprise Software
products offering 5X better performance than IBM, MSFT & WebEx products.
Prior to this role, Ramu was member of Oracle Architecture Review Board and VP for
Oracle Enterprise Business Applications (CRM) Technology and Architecture. He
evolved the JAVA + HTML Technology stack for Oracle Enterprise Business
Applications (e-Business Suite) with 4 quick releases in 18 months. He worked with 80+
early adopters of the Internet Architecture for business applications. From 1995-2000,
Ramu led the development and product management of Clustered Computing Products:
Parallel Server, Fail Safe and Portal Engine. Oracle Parallel Server (renamed to Oracle
RAC, and now 10G) won the "Technical Excellence" award and was the first shared-disk
database implementation for PC Clusters in 1996. Oracle Fail Safe is a popular HA option for Oracle
Databases on Windows. From 1987-1995, Ramu led the development of Relational
Database Products at Digital Equipment Corporation: 64Bit UNIX Database Server,
SQL Databases Integration and SQL Access to Non-Relational data stores.
Ramu has given Industry keynotes at Trade Shows, Analyst Events, Oracle Field Events
and Research Conferences. He has been granted 16 patents by the US Patent Office for
Speed up on Parallel Computers, Caching for Web Applications, Parallel Databases,
Fault-Tolerant Systems, Relational Query processing and Query optimization. He has
B.Tech from IIT-Madras, M.S. from UW-Madison and M.B.A. from Boston University.
