Randy V. Sabett is an attorney at Cooley Godward LLP in Reston, VA in the Information Security and Cybercrime practice group, and is a member of the firm's Technology Transactions Group in the Business Department. He advises high-technology and emerging-growth companies, focusing on information security, patents, and licensing.
Mr. Sabett is Co-Chair of the American Bar Association's Information Security Committee (ISC), served as the Co-Rapporteur for the ISC's PKI Assessment Guidelines (2003), and served on the Editorial Committee member for the Digital Signature Guidelines (1996). Mr. Sabett is a co-author of RFC 3647 (Internet X.509 Public Key Infrastructure Certificate Policy and Certification Practices Framework) and was also a member of the X9F5 ANSI working group that developed American National Standard X9.79, the "PKI Practices and Policy Framework" (2000).
In addition to teaching Information Policy at George Washington University, Mr. Sabett is a frequent speaker on both legal and technical issues involving information security. He, is co-author of the Thomson-West book "Internet Law and Practice", and co-editor of the book "Information Security: A Legal, Business, and Technical Handbook." He is a member of the Maryland and Virginia bars, is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Prior to entering the practice of law, Mr. Sabett spent several years as a software and crypto engineer for the Department of Defense and in private industry.
