David S. Weitzel

David S. Weitzel is a Senior Principal for the Center for Information and Telecommunications Technology at Mitretek Systems, a non-profit research institution in McLean VA where he represents Mitretek in its e-commerce policy initiatives through interactions with industry leaders, academic researchers, and government policymakers. Weitzel currently works on Mitretek’s support to the Federal Government’s E-Authentication Program.
Weitzel has been active in the industry since 1987 with past professional experience in Internet governance, standards development, telecommunications strategic planning, air traffic control research, as well as telecommunications infrastructure procurement. In his telecommunications work he has worked closely with various industry committees and FCC advisory committees.
Weitzel is co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Privacy and Computer Crime Committee of its Section of Science and Technology, and a member of the ABA’s Cyberlaw Committee of the Section of Business Law, the Internet Society, and the Federal Communications Bar Association. Weitzel is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Weitzel received his undergraduate education at St. Johns College, Annapolis MD, a Masters degree in computer science from the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore MD, and a law degree and certificate in communications law from the Catholic University of America, Washington D.C.
