Arthur R. Williams, Ph.D.
ArtW Consulting, Inc.
Art is an independent analyst and consultant focused on the ASP market. Until May, '01, he was the analyst at Giga covering the ASP market. In that capacity, he appeared on television and radio, and was often quoted in the press. Prior to joining Giga, Art retired from IBM after thirty years there. Art was trained as a theoretical physicist, and led the computational physics program at IBM for many years. After 20 years in science and management at IBM, he left to join the startup Thinking Machines Inc. to manage technical marketing. Returning to IBM, he invented what became IBM's SP line of unix computers (those used for "Deep Blue" e.g.). He created and managed a computer center at IBM designed to demonstrate the virtues of the SP. He introduced timeshared Windows (Terminal Server, Citrix etc.) to IBM and managed its deployment to users of unix workstations and IBM's network computers. He finished his IBM career on the CIO's staff, where he was responsible for new technologies.
Art has a Ph.D. from Harvard in theoretical physics, an A.B. from Dartmouth and was a FulBright Scholar.
