Ron Markezich Chief Information Officer Microsoft Corp.
Ron Markezich is chief information officer for Microsoft Corp. He is responsible for driving and delivering information technology (IT) services and line-of-business applications for Microsoft. This entails directing all activities related to running the global IT infrastructure, IT services and information security, in addition to line-of-business application development, support and maintenance. Under Markezich’s direction, the IT department provides leadership in the design of integrated strategies, processes and architecture, which ensures excellence in running a world-class utility. The IT department is committed to being Microsoft’s "First and Best customer" through the use and testing of Microsoft products long before they are released to customers, and driving feedback to the product groups. IT is also responsible for protecting the security and privacy of Microsoft’s assets, data and intellectual property.
Before becoming CIO, Markezich was the general manager of Global Technology Services at Microsoft IT, where he was responsible for Microsoft’s internal IT infrastructure and services. This included managing the company’s internal datacenters, telephony, networks, remote computing, enterprise data storage, monitoring, disaster recovery, and messaging and collaboration systems.
Markezich joined Microsoft in November 1998 and focused his career on automating business processes and empowering employees through the use of technology. Before becoming general manager of Global Technology Services, he was general manager of IT Client Services. During this time, the Microsoft® Global Help Desk was awarded the Primus Luminary Award for best overall help desk with respect to knowledge management solutions.
Before that, Markezich was the general manager of Finance and Administration IT; his organization developed, maintained and supported systems for Microsoft Finance, administration and Corporate Services. During Markezich’s time in this role, his organization received CFO Magazine’s CFO Excellence award as well as Treasury & Risk Management’s Alexander Hamilton Award for Technology.
Before joining Microsoft, Markezich was at Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) in the Electronics & High Tech group, focusing on improving his clients’ business operations through the use of technology.
Markezich has a bachelor of arts degree in management information systems from the University of Notre Dame.
