D. Reed Freeman, Jr. is the Chief Privacy Officer and Vice President for Legislative and Regulatory Affairs at Claria Corporation, a Redwood City-based online behavioral marketing company. Prior to joining Claria in
May, Reed was a partner at Collier Shannon Scott, a Washington, DC based law firm, where he practiced online privacy and advertising law. He is a former staff attorney for the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection and the author of the CCH Advertising Law Guide, a two volume treatise on advertising law. He is a frequent speaker on privacy and advertising law, and has authored dozens of articles on those topics. He has been an adjunct professor of advertising and privacy law at George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia, since 2000. Reed received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1993.
