Bernard Gershon is Senior Vice President and General Manager of ABCNEWS.com,
the number one broadcast news Website. In this position, Mr. Gershon is
responsible for overseeing all aspects of ABCNEWS.com, including editorial,
content, design, production, advertising and marketing, and supervises
staffs and newsrooms in New York and Seattle. Since Gershon joined the staff
of ABCNEWS.com, the site has experienced a 500% growth in unique users to
the site (ComScore Media Metrix).
During his tenure at ABCNEWS.com, Gershon has overseen the operations during
the site's Peabody Award winning coverage of September 11, 2001, the
continuing attack on terrorism, and the 2000 Presidential Elections. While
general manager of ABCNEWS.com, the site was additionally distinguished with
an Edward R. Murrow Award, the Sigma Delta Chi Award for online journalism,
among others.
Gershon is acknowledged within the industry as a pioneer in streaming media.
He started the first regularly scheduled Webcast for the Internet
(SAMDONALDSON@ABCNEWS.com), and expanded that offering with the
Internet-only Webcast, co-produced with the New York Times, "Political
Points." Gershon also oversaw the creation and development of the
Internet-exclusive investigative series, "Internet Expos" hosted by ABC
News' Chris Wallace. Recently, under Gershon's direction, ABCNEWS.com
launched a standalone subscription service, "ABC News On Demand," which
offers the best audio and video content from ABC News, including "World News
Tonight" and "Nightline" in their entirety, and exclusive interviews from
the news magazines, and daily breaking news reports.
Previously, Mr. Gershon had been Vice President of ABC News Radio where he
was responsible for all information programming produced for the ABC Radio
Networks' 140-million weekly listeners.
In 1995, Mr. Gershon started ABCRadioNet.com, the first streaming media
Internet site at ABC. Under his direction, the ABC News Radio staff received
the RTNDA's prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for Overall Excellence for
four consecutive years.
Mr. Gershon joined ABC News in 1993 as his success as Associate Director,
News and Programming for WCBS NewsRadio 88. Prior to joining CBS, he served
as News Director of WOR Radio, New York.
