Dan founded Context Media with a vision of connecting digital content in new ways between affiliates, partners, and customers, by building a new contextual framework within which content can be easily discovered, shared, differentiated and delivered. Context Media sprang from experiences and ideas Dan pioneered as a Senior Vice President at Netscape Communications, and as founder/CEO at InSoft, which merged with Netscape in 1996. InSoft's groundbreaking streaming media technology combined with Netscape's market presence, allowed Netscape to develop its leading audio, video, and real-time collaborative platform. This merger also introduced several "firsts" to the Internet: the first streaming media system (Netscape Media Server); the introduction of Internet telephony technology (Netscape Conference); and the creation of a media developers platform (Netscape LiveMedia). Dan's team also led the development of Netscape LiveAudio and LiveVideo and spearheaded the creation of several major Internet standards such as Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP). These technologies now provide some of the core infrastructure for the way multimedia and real-time interactive communications are utilized on the Internet, as well as the basis for the convergence of traditional telephony services with the Internet protocol (IP).
Dan holds both a B.A. degree in Psychology and a B.S.M.E. (Mechanical Engineering) degree from the University of Rhode Island, where he also completed extensive graduate-level work.
