Dr Sandra Kay Helsel brings with her over a decade of high-tech editorial and conference organizing experience. Helsel has held top editorial positions with internet.com, Silicon Graphics' IRIS Universe and Innovation3 magazines, Mecklermedia, London based VRNews, PennWell and Miller Freeman. Her clients have included such powerhouses as IBM, Sun Microsystems, Sony Film Institute, Fraunhofer Institute and the Getty Institute.
Dr Helsel has authored numerous books, market directories and textbooks. Dr. Helsel has organized a variety of conferences and events in the US and Europe; including London, San Jose, New York, and Los Angeles. She was entitled "The First Lady of VR" by San Francisco commentators and is a leading authority on virtual worlds, having founded the industry's first major publication and organized the international VR conference that set the industry in motion. She has keynoted and served as program chair for major conferences for the past ten years.
Dr Helsel also founded and directs ExperiencePR, a Southwestern based firm which provides competitive communication strategies to early stage startups that are commercializing emerging technologies in the biotech, optics, visualization, energy, and IT industries. She specializes in media placement to best position her clients for pre-IPO investments or acquisitions. She also teaches in the Communication Department at the University of Arizona.
