Dr. Walsh is an internationally renown academic, author, and businessman He
has been a director in a fortune 500 company and president of
entrepreneurial firms. His managerial research is aimed at both the
academic and practitioner communities and he has well over 100 published
articles, which serve those communities. He serves as the founding
president of Micro and Nano technology education foundation and he is the
Director of Technological Entrepreneurship at UNM. He serves UNM as, an
associate professor in management of technology professor, and the Black
Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of New Mexico. His Plenary
presentations during February, March, April, May and June of 2002 include
the National Commercialization of Microsystems meeting in Florida, the Ohio
American Marketing Association conference at Defiance College and the
plenary speaker at the International Association of Product Development
Professionals in Connecticut, Session chair at the national Inc. 500
conference, and speaker at Semicon Europa, Sensors San Jose, Babson-Kaufman
Entrepreneurial Research Conference and the International Conference on
Small Business Research. He will be just returning from the 7th
international conference on the commercialization of micro and Nano systems
held in Ypsilanti Michigan www.coms2002.org,
His research efforts are focused on the management of technology fields of
competency versus capability theory, disruptive versus sustaining
technologies and continuous versus discontinuous innovation. He applies
these and other concepts to develop cutting edge commercialization academic
and industrial efforts and has published extensively in R&D management,
strategic management of technology, international technology management,
technology entrepreneurship, technology management in the service sector,
and technological entrepreneurship.
He has been a plenary speaker or invited speaker numerous times at the major
conferences in academia such as the International Association of Management
of Technology (IAMOT) as well as the SPIE (The International Society for
Optical Engineering). He has also been an invited speaker at many
universities and national laboratories including: Chalmers and Jonkoping
University in Sweden, University of Twente in the Netherlands, National
laboratories in Switzerland and the United Kingdom, the University of
Missouri Rolla, Louisiana Tech, Sandia National Laboratories, Lawrence
Livermore National Laboratory and others in the US, IIT Kanpur, IIM
Ahemdabad, IIT Delhi, University of Calcutta, National Physics Laboratory
and the cabinet minister in India, Bejing University, and Nankai University
in the Peoples Republic of China.
He holds a number of academic and industrial positions such as
- President elect for the MANCEF. MANCEF is the international Micro and Nano technology commercialization education foundation and international professional organization that focuses on the issues in commercializing disruptive technologies specifically Microsystems and Nano technology.
- Member of board of reviewers for the IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management.
- Associate editor for Microsystems Commercialization and Silicon processing for the SPIE Journal of Microlithography, Microfabrication, and Microsystems.
- Co-chair for the MANCEF / SEMI international technology roadmap for Microsystems.
- Member Board of advisors of R&D magazine's Micro Machine Devices magazine.
