John Rose manages the operational review of EMI’s recorded music business and helps to drive the growth strategy process for EMI Group. He oversees EMI’s strategy and business development functions and the new media division. He is also responsible for coordinating the group’s government and industry affairs.

Prior to joining EMI Group, Rose worked at McKinsey & Company in New York for 20 years, most recently as a senior partner of the firm and, since 1997, as co-leader of its global media and entertainment practice. Rose’s work at McKinsey has comprised business creation, both within and outside the internet space; business restructuring and portfolio strategy; and overall corporate strategy including merger and acquisition activity. He has engineered and led many deals and done private equity work. During his time with McKinsey he has gained considerable international and technology experience.

Born in Stamford, Connecticut, Rose, 44, holds a BA in Mathematics from Wesleyan University and a Masters Degree from Yale School of Management. He is on the board of WNYC, a non-profit radio group in New York, and is on the national board of Young Audiences, a group dedicated to bringing arts into the classroom.
