After spending 6 years as an Industrial Engineer, Don VanCleave quit his
white collar job and opened Magic Platter CD in Birmingham, AL. Open for 14
years, Magic Platter won numerous awards including NARM Small Retailer of
the Year for 1998 and 1999. In 1995, VanCleave and other retailers formed
the Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS), an organization created to
provide a marketing machine for labels to utilize. VanCleave now serves as
the organizations full time President.
