Tim Mitchell Director MP3.com CNET Networks
Tim Mitchell, Director, MP3.com, is responsible for managing MP3.com, its business strategy and technologies. He has played a key role in the re-launch of mp3.com with a new brand, focus, and directive as a comprehensive information, commerce, and discovery service.
In 1996, he started his internet career at Wired Magazine and soon moved to Hotwired, the first commercial content site on the internet where he worked on early ad technologies and the HotBot search engine. In 1998, he founded grassroots web-casting site Nineup.com to showcase emerging independent acts using the power of streaming media. Later, he held product management roles at Wired Digital and TerraLycos for Lycos Multimedia, Lycos Music, and the Sonique Media player.
As a seasoned speaker on the subject of the internet and music, Mitchell spoke at the 19th Annual Winter Music Conference in Miami, FL on piracy and copyright. He also hosted the Wired News online radio show "Music Spin" in 2000. He is a member of the Board of the Popular Noise Foundation, a San Francisco based non-profit that promotes local musicians and has been a song-writer, recording artist, and performer for 10 years.
