John Rae was born in Toronto in 1951. He lived his entire life in Toronto until an epiphany about 'comfort zones' prompted a move to Whistler in January '99.
In Toronto, John held increasingly senior roles in advertising and marketing. From '96 until the epiphany, John was Vice President, Group Account Director at J. Walter Thompson Advertising. His clients included
Kraft, Pfizer, Unilever and IBM.
Since arriving in Whistler, John has provided marketing counsel to every major business in the resort including Intrawest (Whistler/Blackcomb), Tourism Whistler, Whistler Lodging Company and whistler.com. In January '03, John accepted the newly created position of Manager Strategic Alliances & Marketing Services with the Resort Municipality of Whistler. In this role John represents Whistler's interests in the development of
Corporate Partnerships, Sponsorship of major events - including the 2010 Winter Olympics - and Private Public Partnerships, including the 'yodel' wi-fi initiative with V-Link Solutions Inc.
