Ken DiPietro
Founder & Co-owner
New-ISP
In early 1998, Ken and his wife Dawn decided to bring high-speed Internet to what he jokingly refers to as the second to the last telephone pole in the universe. After more than a year of research New-ISP was born, a hybrid SDSL and Fixed Wireless, high-speed only Internet delivery service.

Since that time, New-ISP has served as an R & D platform and testbed for the continued experimentation of different technologies useful (in varying degrees) for the deployment of alternative high-speed infrastructure.

The Internet business is a very different thing from most other business models because of the combination of the ongoing evolution of technology, changes in regulations and the constant introduction of new services our customer are just now starting to demand. These forces change the way we need to look at our business model. In order to stay competitive it is critical we try to look forward in such a way as to stay current with where the technology is going to direct us and have the correct infrastructure in place before the customer demand outstrips our capacity to meet their requirements.

What kind of effect will VoIP, Videophone and many of these other services that are now being introduced have on the wireless infrastructure? Will the day of half duplex radios give way to the demand for full duplex equipment? What effects will the demand for symmetrical service place on the current infrastructure? Does this mean that many of the networks we are building today will be obsolete shortly after they are complete? If we don't ask these questions we will never be able to isolate where the real opportunities will present themselves and where the traps of today's "current wisdom" are hidden.

He also blogs about the future of broadband.
